EV Operating Safety Rules and Practices
The users who are trained to operate the vehicle must use it or consider taking a training course before operating the vehicle for your and the vehicle’s safety. The users shall be qualified as to the mental, physical, auditory, and visual ability to operate the vehicle.
Users Training
- The user should complete an operator training program before using the vehicle. The program should include the following:
- Instruction manual provided by the manufacturer
- Following general safety rules complied with Standards and specific rules established for the users
- Ensure passenger safety, material loads, and carrier operator
- Get familiar with the equipment, and understand how each piece of equipment functions.
- Understand the various operational performance tests and evaluations during and at the completion of the program.
Users Responsibilities
- Protect the pedestrians at all costs and make sure everyone is safe around the vehicle
- Riding with more than one person is only allowed if the vehicle comes with personnel seats provided by the manufacturer.
- When you have to leave the vehicle unattended, make sure to apply the parking brakes, stop the engine or turn off the control or ignition circuit and remove the key if provided. If the vehicle is parked on an inclined road, block the wheels.
- Maintain a safe distance from the platform or ramps edge.
- Report all the accidents including equipment, building structures, and personnel.
- Do not park the vehicle or leave attended such that they block or obstruct the sideways, stairways, or fire equipment.
Traveling
- Follow the traffic rules and regulations, including speed limits. Based on the travel speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead and behind you.
- Give way to pedestrians, ambulances, fire trucks, or any other vehicle in emergency situations.
- Control the speed as per the situation and activate sound-producing devices in the areas where visibility is obstructed.
Loading and unloading
- Handle the stable and safely arranged loads and always operate with extra caution.
- Load the materials that are within the vehicle’s loading capacity.
- If you handle a load exceeding the vehicle’s dimensions then stability and maneuverability might be affected adversely.
Vehicle Care and Maintenance
- Before starting your shift, check the vehicle’s condition by inspecting tires, lights, batteries, warning devices, brakes, direction controllers, etc. If any equipment is in need of repair, get it reported and repaired before further damage is done.
- Do not make adjustments or repairs unless you are authorized to do so.
- Make sure any spillage of oil or fuel is completely absorbed or evaporated before you start the engine.
- Never operate your vehicle with a leak in the fuel system or battery
- Never use open flames to check electrolyte levels in your storage battery.
